about

The psalm is here sung by Matthew Heyse-Moore, based on and inspired by a recording with Assyrian Eastern Orthodox Father Seraphim (Bit-Haribi) during Pope Francis' visit to Georgia in 2016. Matthew says, ' I am fascinated with the connections the Aramaic uncovers with other words and prayers - "Rahemli" (have mercy in the King James version) comes from the word for womb and for me evokes a womb-like outpouring of giving love far away from images of a bearded cold judge God. "Bisha" (evil in KJV) evokes unripeness and unreadiness with the possibility of becoming ripe. "khtahay" (also sin/ iniquities) evokes 'tangled threads' - words which Jesus directly quoted in the "Lord's Prayer"'. I'm grateful for the work of Neil Douglas-Klotz for enriching my understanding of these words.'
